Introducing Digimarc’s Print-to-Pin Solution
The inherent appeal of Pinterest is how simply and elegantly people can organize and share all their beautiful and interesting finds from the web. Now, readers can pin images from printed publications as easily as pinning from a website.
Digimarc Discover enables a Print-to-Pin solution where readers can re-pin images they love directly from the pages of a publication — enhancing reader engagement and providing a direct link to Pinterest. With digital watermarking, readers can pin images and content whenever and wherever they are most inspired.
The Choice
Using Digimarc Discover technology, a publication can digitally watermark images, branded mobile response codes, or text areas to provide the direct link from print to the pinned image or pinboard on Pinterest.
Publications, brands, and advertisers can digitally watermark images, branded mobile response codes or text areas (examples shown below) to provide the direct link from print to the pinned image or pinboard on Pinterest. Note that the following graphic is not digitally watermarked. Click here for a demo sample of the Print-to-Pin solution.
The Print-to-Pin Workflow
The following showcases the workflow of a Pinterest-enabled real world success: Digitally watermarked page in House Beautiful, June 2012, Kitchen of the Month.
Simple as 1, 2, 3
According to Digimarc, it’s simple to Pinterest-enable publication. After the Pinterest account is created, Digimarc recommends the following steps:
Select which printed images will be pinnable
In the publication, choose which image or images that will be made pinnable and add these to the desired pinboard on a Pinterest page. After finalizing the print layout, use the Digimarc Discover Online Services Portal to embed the selected images with a unique digital watermark. The digital watermark can be linked to either a Pinterest pinboard or to a specific image within a pinboard. This is important since the pinned version is the first stop in the reader’s Print-to-Pin experience.
Educate readers
In each issue, make sure readers know how to download the Digimarc Discover app or a custom Digimarc-enabled app (iTunes App Store/Google Play) and provide brief instructions for how to use it.
Extend the experience
Once readers re-pin one of the images, their pin now links back to the website for additional engagement opportunities, the retailer’s website for online purchase, or other specified online destination.

Cool blog! Is your theme custom made or did you
download it from somewhere? A theme like yours with a few
simple tweeks would really make my blog stand out. Please let me know where
you got your design. With thanks
Thanks for your comment and question. This website is based on the “Advanced Newspaper Theme” by Gabfire. http://www.gabfirethemes.com/themes/advanced-wordpress-newspaper-theme/ In addition to the theme, we’re currently using 33 plugins. We also have a website based on Gabire’s “NewsPro Magazine” theme (http://lighthousesofnorway.com), and a couple using Gabfire’s “Snapwire” theme (http://globaltreehouses.com and http://trainjourneysoftheworld.com, and others).
Looking at your site, you might also be interested in the Pro Photo Theme http://prophototheme.com/ by Mojoness Inc. We’ve used that theme in various ways for three sites: http://holtermannphoto.com, http://unniaskeland.com, http://sverrebjertnes.com
