To encourage customers to enter its website with a more up-to-date Internet browser, Australian online retailer Kogan has claimed to have implemented the world’s first ‘Internet Explorer 7 Tax.’

According to a blog post on Kogan’s website, a new 6.8% tax will be implemented on all products purchased by customers who insist on using the ‘antique browser.’

The humorous message reads:

Internet Explore 7 Tax

It appears you or your system administrator has been in a coma for over 5 years and you are still using IE7. To help make the Internet a better place, you will be charged a 6.8% tax on your purchase from Kogan.com.

This is necessary due to the amount of time required to make web pages appear correctly in IE7.

Avoid the tax, use a better browser: Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Opera.

It seems like an innovative way to get people to upgrade their Web browser.

A great idea. Every website should have one of those.
